Chiikawa-Themed Light Rail Hits Hong Kong This Summer: Everything You Need to Know

This summer, commuting through Hong Kong's New Territories is about to get irresistibly cute! The MTR Corporation has partnered with AllRightsReserved to launch the "Next Station: Chiikawa Artiverse" campaign, transforming a Light Rail train into a dreamy Chiikawa-themed experience for locals and travelers alike.

Fantasy Train Debuts July 25

The first Chiikawa-themed Light Rail will hit the tracks on July 25, 2026. The train's exterior is covered in adorable illustrations of Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi, while the interior features character-shaped handrail straps and hidden glow-in-the-dark stars. The themed train runs four times daily on Saturdays and Sundays until August 30, departing from Siu Hong Station toward either Tuen Mun or Yuen Long. Passengers on the Tuen Mun route get a 10-minute photo break at Town Centre Stop, while the Yuen Long route saves the photo session for the final Platform 1 stop.

How to Ride: HK$88 Travel Pass

To board the themed train, purchase a HK$88 Light Rail Travel Pass at Platform 4 of Siu Hong Station from 10am on operational days — first come, first served. The pass includes one designated themed journey plus unlimited same-day travel across the entire Light Rail network. Each package also comes with collectible goodies: an envelope, a blind-box pouch, and a HK$50 MTR e-Store coupon.

Citywide Installations & Lucky Draw

Can't make it to the New Territories? Themed installations are already up at Admiralty and Lok Ma Chau MTR stations, with mosaic tile decorations appearing at more locations in the coming weeks. MTR Mobile app users can also enter a lucky draw for tickets to the Chiikawa Artiverse exhibition at K11 Musea in August — simply log 10 domestic rides of HK$10 or more by July 30 for a chance to win one of 300 general admission tickets.
