Those who have ridden the Peak Tram will surely agree that taking this esteemed and unique mode of transport is absolutely the best way to discover Hong Kong. The Peak Tram first commenced service on 30 May 1888, and every year, millions of visitors from around the world ride it to experience, from the most spectacular vantage point, the ever‑vibrant scenery of this dynamic city as well as the natural beauty just moments away.

930-4.jpg

The Peak is Hong Kong's premier tourist attraction, offering not only breathtaking views and abundant shopping and dining delights, but also a host of unique must‑visit spots that deliver a diverse travel experience, allowing you to leisurely soak up the local lifestyle and culture of Hong Kong. To reach the Peak, taking one of the world's oldest and most renowned funicular railways is definitely an unforgettable experience!

930-1.jpg

The entire railway is towed by steel cables, with the tram climbing diagonally up the hillside from an elevation of 28 metres to 396 metres (approximately 1,300 feet) above sea level, allowing passengers to overlook the stunning views of Victoria Harbour along the way. Inside the carriage, your body cannot help but lean backwards, as some sections of the route have gradients ranging from 4 to 27 degrees! Towering buildings and lush foliage seem to tilt to one side — what a remarkable sensation! The Peak Tram covers a total distance of 1,365 metres, and the computerised tram takes only about 7 minutes for the journey. Each tram can carry up to 120 passengers at a time, including 95 seated and 25 standing, operating over 90 trips daily. The unique wave‑patterned corridor floor inside the carriage is a distinctive design feature, intended to make it easier for passengers to stand on the slopes.

930-3.jpg

The terminus is located on the third floor of the Peak Tower, where visitors can shop and dine, as well as visit the wax museum housed within. Of course, don't forget to step onto the viewing platform at the Peak Tower to marvel at the breathtaking night views of Hong Kong below!
