Tucked inside one of Kuala Lumpur's more understated luxury hotels, the brunch favours a refined, relaxed mood over spectacle. There's no endless spread running the length of the room; instead, the offering is intentional, centred on premium ingredients, live cooking stations and plated dishes that arrive at a steady, unhurried rhythm.

The seafood selection is often the first thing to stand out. Chilled seafood-on-ice sets the tone, followed by warmer dishes that lift the meal beyond a typical buffet line-up. The pacing is one of its strengths, letting guests genuinely savour each round rather than rush through it.

A defining feature of Atas Sunday Brunch is its hybrid format. Guests move between buffet stations and made-to-order dishes sent straight from the kitchen, giving the brunch a more personalised feel — dishes arrive fresh rather than sitting under heat lamps, which keeps flavour and presentation consistent throughout.

The live stations add another layer of engagement, particularly the carved meats and freshly prepared mains that bring a sense of theatre without feeling overdone. Desserts close the experience on a polished note, mixing familiar favourites with delicate plated sweets.

Service is attentive without being intrusive, matching the hotel's broader quiet-luxury identity. The overall impression is one of balance — between indulgence and restraint, comfort and refinement.

At this price point, Atas Sunday Brunch sits firmly in the premium category and delivers accordingly. It may not be the city's most extravagant buffet, but it stands out for its composure, consistency and focus on well-executed dishes over sheer volume.

Fuego, Troika Sky Dining

Perched high above the city, Fuego has long been a go-to for Latin American-inspired dining in Kuala Lumpur, pairing sweeping skyline views with bold, fire-driven flavours.

The evening opened with a round of cocktails, each with its own character. The Smokey Beat stood out for its earthy, berry combination, while the Tequilapeno delivered a pleasant jalapeno kick without overwhelming the palate. For something lighter, the tropical Coco Loco and fruit-forward Sunset Glow made easy-drinking alternatives.

Among the starters, the super spicy guacamole lived up to its name with a punchy heat chilli lovers will appreciate. The snapper tiradito was a highlight — delicate slices of raw fish lifted by caviar and spices — while the elote offered a satisfying mix of sweetness, char and creamy richness.

The mains showed off Fuego's strength in open-fire cooking. The chicken thigh anticuchos were tender and well seasoned, but the grilled octopus stole the show, balancing smoky char with a succulent texture. Vegetarians aren't forgotten either — the cauliflower steak proved surprisingly hearty and flavourful.

For meat lovers, the wagyu picanha delivered exactly what the restaurant's grill-focused reputation promises: juicy, well-executed beef with just enough smokiness to complement rather than overpower the meat.

Dessert came in the form of churros with salted caramel mousse — crisp outside, fluffy within, a comforting close to an otherwise bold, flavour-packed meal.

While the city views remain a big draw, Fuego continues to earn its reputation through consistently vibrant flavours and a menu built for sharing — as much about the experience as the food itself.

King of the Grill BBQ Buffet, The Pearl Kuala Lumpur

The Pearl Hotel Kuala Lumpur's King of the Grill BBQ Buffet Dinner is a feast that truly lives up to its name. Spanning more than 80 dishes across five Friday and Saturday evenings, it delivers on variety, quality and value. The seafood on ice stood out immediately — everything was fresh, and the oysters were especially impressive: sweet, thick and undeniably fresh.

No fishy smell, just pure ocean quality. The sashimi also impressed, with butterfish as the star — it melts in the mouth with a rich, creamy texture. The salmon and tuna were excellent too, sliced perfectly and tasting fresh. Quality clearly trumps quantity here.

The grilled meats were well seasoned and varied, from Portuguese-style whole grilled fish to grilled lamb shoulder and well-seasoned mini beef steak — each cooked to perfection.

Desserts hit the right note too — not overwhelming but enough to satisfy a sweet tooth. The cheese selection was surprisingly good and paired beautifully with the cold cuts, lifting the experience beyond a typical BBQ buffet.

The ambience is lovely, with warm lighting and comfortable seating matched by impeccable service throughout — staff were attentive, friendly and quick to refill plates or answer questions.

At RM118 per adult, this is one of the better BBQ buffets in Kuala Lumpur. The quality of the seafood — especially the oysters and sashimi — sets it apart, while the well-seasoned grilled meats and creative desserts add another layer of excellence.
