Rome Opens Its Monuments at Night: Colosseum, Pantheon & Museums with Evening Visits in August

Culture doesn't take a holiday — instead, it welcomes Romans and visitors spending August in the Eternal City with extraordinary evening openings and visits, when soaring temperatures become more bearable.

The Colosseum, the Pantheon, VIVE, and other Roman museums and monuments have unveiled their August programme, featuring evening openings and performances that let you escape the city routine and dive deep into history.
The Colosseum & Pantheon Trial
Starting Saturday, August 1, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism are rolling out an initiative to keep major Italian monuments and museums open for up to four extra hours daily. The trial runs throughout August and, in Rome, covers the Colosseum and the Pantheon. The goal: cater to tourists, streamline crowd management, offer access during cooler hours, and provide time slots better aligned with working hours.
In detail: the Colosseum will stay open on Fridays and Saturdays from 7:45 PM to 11:30 PM, while the Pantheon will welcome visitors from 7 PM to 11 PM, except on Thursdays.
Evening Openings at the Vittoriano & Palazzo Venezia
On select dates, the Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia will also remain open after sunset. The "VIVE 2026 Evening Openings" in August fall on August 7 and August 21, followed by September 11, 2026 (Vittoriano only) and September 27 (both Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia).
Imperial Nights at the Baths of Caracalla
The Baths of Caracalla previously announced "Imperial Nights" — extraordinary evening openings running until October 15, 2026. Upcoming dates: Sunday, August 2 (sold out), Saturday, September 19, Saturday, September 26, and Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Evening Events at Castel Sant'Angelo
Rounding out the after-dark lineup: "The Angel and the Moon" at Castel Sant'Angelo, evening access to the Villas of Tivoli (Hadrian's Villa, Villa d'Este, and the Sanctuary of Hercules Victor) under the "Summer of the Tivoli VILLAS Illuminated by Night" initiative, and "Tales of Light 2026" at the Galleria Borghese — an immersive show running through August 8, with the museum open until 11 PM.
