Hualien County, anciently known as Qilai, Huilan, and Doroman, is the region with the largest number of Taiwan indigenous peoples in Taiwan. Among the indigenous peoples in the area, the distribution of the Amis people of Taiwan’s indigenous groups is the most widespread. The county flag is designed with the concept of "Home of the Sun," with the image of the sun rising over the sea, symbolising the dawn of the Pacific Ocean. Each light dot represents the colours of various ethnic groups: the Amis, Truku, Bunun, Kavalan, Sakizaya, Seediq, and Han Chinese, reflecting the integration of major ethnic groups. The region is famous for its natural tourism resources, including Taroko National Park and Yushan National Park.
