Barcelona's La Sagrera Gets a New Summer Oasis: Two Open-Air Public Pools Open
On days when the tarmac feels like it's melting and the city craves a cool refuge, La Sagrera now has the answer: the brand-new open-air pools of the recently opened Municipal Sports Centre (CEM) welcomed the public this weekend. Located at Calle de Bonaventura Gispert 37-47, the facilities add another cooling spot to Barcelona, which now counts 16 public outdoor pools.
Over 1,000 m² of Sun and Sport
The star of the space is a 25-metre pool, joined by a smaller 16-metre pool as a complementary area. Those looking to relax can stretch out on a vast solarium spanning more than 1,000 square metres. The complex also features two paddle tennis courts, a weight-training room, a dedicated spin-bike area and three studios for group classes.
Sustainable Design and a Winter Promise
The complex is water self-sufficient and runs on renewable energy, thanks to photovoltaic panels, modern aerothermal systems and heat-recovery mechanisms. The official opening won't come until September, when a retractable roof and heated pools are completed — so locals can keep swimming in the August sun or the December chill alike.
