Southwark Tube Station to Close on Weekdays for a Month: Jubilee Line Disruption

Heads up if you're travelling around central London in the coming weeks: Southwark Underground station will be shut for several hours every weekday for the next month. From 17 August to 11 September, Jubilee line trains will not stop at the station during certain daytime hours.

The good news is that most commuters shouldn't be badly affected. The station will only close between 9.45am and 4.15pm, Monday to Friday, so rush hour services are unaffected.

Transport for London (TfL) says the closure is to allow major construction work above the station. Two mixed-use buildings are being built on top of the site, featuring student accommodation, affordable homes, retail and café space, a shared community garden and a play area.

While Southwark is closed, passengers can use Waterloo — an eight-to-ten-minute walk away — for the Jubilee line, or head to Blackfriars or Elephant & Castle stations and take the 40 or 63 bus routes to and from the Southwark area.
