We've made it past the halfway point of the year, and there's plenty of new eats across cuisines to get excited about. With the opening of Steppes Mont Kiara and the continued growth of Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, this month brings fresh faces and new outposts from familiar names alike — so you can skip the endless searching and head straight to your next great meal.

1. Jalinan

From the team behind Fifty Tales, Jalinan brings Malaysian noodle bowls and more to TTDI. The menu is a loving study of local cuisine and its cross-cultural roots, reimagining familiar dishes — like nasi ulam turned into a dry laksa ulam bowl. A meal here deepens your appreciation for Malaysia's vibrant food and the lesser-known ingredients growing right in the backyard.

2. Fujin Ramen

Fujin joins the local ramen scene at the buzzing Steppes @ Mont Kiara. Inside its minimalist space (plus outdoor seating), you'll find steaming bowls of tori paitan broth ramen and Japanese-Western favourites. The signature Fujin Tori Ramen is the star, but don't skip the karaage or duck minidon.

3. Sonny Bagel Shop

Malaysia's first wood-fired bagel joint has arrived at JAM PJ. The bagel sandwiches quickly built a loyal following and often sell out on busy days. Top picks so far include the Downtown Satay, Tuna Melt, The Hot Chick, and Holy Lox.

4. Gyusei Gyukatsu

Gyukatsu lovers can rejoice — Gyusei Gyukatsu brings its golden cutlets to Bukit Damansara. The menu offers a range of sets to suit every taste, including a seafood option. Expect perfectly breaded, fried gyukatsu wrapping a juicy Wagyu bite with a hint of charcoal-grill smokiness.

5. Rumoh Mekda

The flavours of Malaysia's east coast land in Bangsar with Rumoh Mekda. This cosy, lived-in hangout is decked in wicker and colourful fabrics, serving nasi kerabu, patin sambal tempoyak, and oxtail singgang — a taste of Kelantan and Terengganu right in KL.

6. Koha Bistro

For a new brunch spot, head to Koha for hearty plates driven by appetite rather than any single cuisine. The feel-good menu features beef trip with salmoriglio in bean broth, chicken paté with toast, clam pasta with ginger dressing, house Koha Fried Chicken, and a Sabah octopus risotto.

7. Nude

Another feel-good newcomer is Restaurant Nude, with a modern European menu. The steak frites never disappoint, the beef ragu is a hearty treat, and — as a nod to its dessert beginnings — don't skip the strawberry pavlova or warm blueberry cheesecake.

8. Café Conti
