This Hidden Swimming Hole Near Vancouver Sits Next to a Waterfall — Just 15 Minutes From the Parking Lot

Golden Ears Provincial Park is one of British Columbia's most beloved outdoor playgrounds — a sprawling wilderness of old-growth forest, mountain vistas, and the ever-popular Alouette Lake. But tucked away just a short walk from the parking lot lies a lesser-known gem: a crystal-clear swimming hole fed by a waterfall, and it's been steadily gaining fame on Instagram for good reason.

Finding Gold Creek Falls

The trail to Gold Creek Falls starts at the Gold Creek Parking Lot within the park's Day Use Area. Hop on the wide, well-maintained path and follow the gradual incline through a lush coastal western hemlock forest blanketed in moss. Within about 15 minutes, Gold Creek appears on your left, shimmering through the trees.

Keep walking and you'll soon emerge into a clearing with sweeping views of Alouette, Edge, and Blanchard Mountains — the kind of panorama that makes you forget you're only an hour from downtown Vancouver.

As the trail climbs gently, the sound of rushing water grows louder. While spring delivers the most dramatic waterfall flows, the scenery here delivers year-round. After taking in the viewpoint at the top of the falls, loop back down past the cascade toward the parking lot.

The swimming hole everyone's posting about sits at Gold Creek Lower Falls, where blue-green water pools beneath the falls and practically begs for a refreshing dip on a hot summer day.

Make It an Overnighter

Golden Ears offers three large front-country campgrounds for those who want to extend their visit, plus reservable backcountry sites — some reachable only by boat. Walk-in backcountry options include Viewpoint Beach, Hiker's Beach, Alder Flats, Halfmoon Beach, and Panorama Ridge, each offering a different flavour of B.C. wilderness.

Plan Ahead

The park is open year-round, though winter access is restricted starting mid-October. Park gates are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. between April and mid-October, and until 7 p.m. from mid-October through March. One key detail: if you're visiting between May 15 and September 7, you'll need to reserve a free day pass in advance — don't get turned away at the gate.

Getting There

Golden Ears Provincial Park is roughly a 56-minute drive from Vancouver via the Trans-Canada Highway / BC-1 East. Park at the Gold Creek lot, lace up, and you're 15 minutes from one of the Lower Mainland's best-kept summer secrets.
