Choosing where to stay in Vancouver shapes your trip, from the high-rises of the downtown core to the leafy streets of the West End. This neighbourhood guide covers local prices, safety notes, and transport access across the city.
Downtown Vancouver
As the commercial heart of the region, downtown puts visitors within walking distance of Canada Place, the Vancouver Convention Centre, Robson Street shopping, and the Stanley Park seawall. The area is served by the Expo and Canada SkyTrain lines, the SeaBus to Lonsdale Quay, and multiple bus routes.
2026 nightly rates:
Budget hotels and hostels: ~$110 to $160
Mid-range 3-star chains and boutique inns: ~$170 to $260
Upscale 4-star and waterfront properties: ~$270 to $420
Downtown is generally safe during the day along Granville, Robson, and Hastings. Exercise caution around the East Hastings corridor after dark. From Vancouver International Airport, take the Canada Line SkyTrain directly to Waterfront Station in about 25 minutes for $10.70 adult fare, or $9.35 on evenings and weekends. Downtown parking costs $30 to $50 per day.

West End
Bordering downtown to the west, the West End features tree-lined streets near Stanley Park and a dining and nightlife strip along Davie Street. It offers a quieter night after exploring the city centre.
2026 nightly rates:
Budget and hostels: ~$95 to $130
Mid-range: ~$140 to $220
Boutique and high-end: ~$230 to $340
The West End ranks among Vancouver's safest neighbourhoods, though petty theft can occur near busy bus stops. The area is serviced by the Expo Line at Burrard Station and bus routes including the #2 Macdonald and #4 Powell. Street parking is limited, with paid lots running $25 to $40 per day.
Kitsilano

Kitsilano provides ocean views, beaches, and a food scene along West 4th Avenue. To get here, take the Expo Line to Burrard Station and transfer to the #2 Macdonald bus or the #44 UBC line.
2026 nightly rates:
Budget and hostels: ~$85 to $120
Mid-range: ~$130 to $200
Upscale boutique hotels and beachfront suites: ~$210 to $320
Kitsilano has low crime rates, though bicycle theft near the beach requires attention. Street parking is metered and limited.
Commercial Drive
Known as 'the Drive,' this East Vancouver strip runs from Broadway to 16th Avenue with cafes, vintage shops, and international eateries. The #99 B-Line rapid bus runs along Broadway, connecting to Commercial-Broadway Station on the Expo Line.

2026 nightly rates:
Budget and hostels: ~$80 to $115
Mid-range: ~$120 to $180
Boutique and apartment-style stays: ~$190 to $260
Mount Pleasant
Located south of Commercial Drive, Mount Pleasant features heritage homes, independent breweries, and the Main Street corridor. The Main Street-Science World Station on the Expo Line sits at the northern edge, alongside the #8 Main bus and the #99 B-Line.
2026 nightly rates:
Budget and hostels: ~$90 to $130
Mid-range: ~$140 to $210
