Vancouver Exhibition Explores 1930s and 1940s History at Museum of Vancouver
Visitors interested in local history can explore the 1930s-1940s exhibition at the Museum of Vancouver, which details a transformative period for the city.

The display highlights the 1929 amalgamation of the City of Vancouver with South Vancouver and Point Grey, alongside its status as Canada's third largest city when its first comprehensive city plan was undertaken.

Exhibition themes cover the impact of the 1929 market crash, which led to plummeting resource prices, job losses, slashed wages, evictions, and foreclosures that halted major civic plans. It also covers the subsequent wartime shift in 1939 when factories and shipyards geared up for record production, turning out a ship every two weeks, as well as the wartime displacement of the Japanese Canadian community following Pearl Harbour.
