Gramercy Tavern Launches 'Behind the Bar' Guest Bartender Series Featuring Miami, New Orleans & Philly's Best
The new Behind the Bar series brings award-winning cocktail bars from across America to Gramercy Tavern's historic Tavern room this fall.

New Yorkers rarely need an excuse to stay put, but this autumn, three of the country's most celebrated cocktail destinations are bringing their craft straight to Manhattan. Gramercy Tavern, the iconic Flatiron restaurant, has unveiled Behind the Bar — a guest takeover series that will see top-tier bars from Miami, New Orleans, and Philadelphia rotate through its Tavern room for exclusive multi-night residencies.
Kicking things off is Miami's Café La Trova on August 17 and 18. The Little Havana institution is helmed by legendary cantinero Julio Cabrera, whose drinks are rooted in Cuba's rich cocktail heritage. The food side is no afterthought either: James Beard Award-winning chef Michelle Bernstein crafts a menu that marries Cuban classics with clever contemporary twists. Café La Trova has also earned multiple spots on the World's 50 Best Bars list, cementing its reputation as a global cocktail powerhouse.
The opening night on August 17 is reserved for Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders, but the August 18 event is open to everyone with a reservation.
On September 9, the series welcomes New Orleans' Jewel of the South. Tucked away in the French Quarter and co-founded by Chris Hannah, this acclaimed bar holds the 2024 James Beard Award for Outstanding Bar and recently ranked No. 6 on North America's 50 Best Bars list for 2026 — serious credentials for a bar rooted in Southern hospitality.
The finale lands on October 5 with Philadelphia's The Lovers Bar, the intimate downstairs cocktail den beneath celebrated restaurant Friday Saturday Sunday. With head bartender Paul MacDonald at the helm, this moody bolthole was a finalist for Outstanding Bar at the 2025 James Beard Awards and has become a destination in its own right for Philly's cocktail scene.
Each visiting bar will commandeer the Tavern, pouring signature cocktails and plating standout dishes alongside Gramercy Tavern's regular à la carte menu. The upshot? You can skip the flight to Miami, the trek to NOLA, or even the Amtrak to Philly — world-class cocktails are coming to you this fall. Reservations for Jewel of the South and The Lovers Bar nights haven't dropped yet, so stay tuned.
