Vancouver's Biggest Free Block Party: 30+ Live Murals, DJs, Beer Garden & Three Days of Art
The second edition of the Astro Arts Festival arrives in early August, reviving the spirit of the beloved Vancouver Mural Festival that once defined the city's summer calendar. Taking place at the Astro Club Artist Facility, this free, all-ages block party celebrates Mount Pleasant's local art and creative talent, featuring more than 30 experimental murals painted live throughout the event.
This year, the celebration spills onto the street — West 4th Avenue will be closed to traffic starting at Columbia Street, letting the art truly take over the neighbourhood.

Things kick off with the "100 Amigos" gallery exhibition on Friday, August 7, running from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Curated by Pablo Zamudio, Drew Young, Douglas Coupland, and Graeme Berglund, this late-night showcase offers the perfect chance to explore diverse public artworks across multiple mediums, set to live music by DJ Hubbz.
On Saturday, August 8, the free block party unveils six large-scale murals in Astro Alley. From noon until 10 p.m., visitors can watch mural painting and a graffiti jam unfold in real time, with more than 30 artists taking part, according to organizers.
"Visitors can see how large-scale public art comes to life and meet the artists transforming Mount Pleasant," organizers shared in a recent statement. "Whether you're an art enthusiast, fellow creative, or just curious, come and connect with the people and processes behind Vancouver's public art scene."

Festival-goers will also discover an artisan market curated by Make Good Party and a vintage market by Cabreezy Curates, stocked with locally crafted goods and second-hand treasures waiting to be found.
Between admiring the street art, chatting with local creators, and browsing the markets, you can grab a cold drink from the block-wide beer garden and catch live music by Ricecake.
The fun rolls into Sunday, August 9, with a second block party — giving you a full two days of live art, music, dancing, and car-free street vibes to soak up.
If you've been missing the Vancouver Mural Festival and are on the hunt for similar summer events, this one absolutely deserves a spot on your calendar. And if you're looking for even more free festivities that same weekend, the Summer Social River District is also worth checking out!
