Vancouver's Only Fireworks Show of 2026 Lights Up English Bay This Friday — Here's Your Complete Guide

Mark your calendars — Vancouver's skies are set to ignite this Friday evening for the city's one and only fireworks spectacular of the summer.

The City of Vancouver's "Summer Lights in English Bay" event takes place Friday, July 31, 2026, stepping in as a single-night replacement for what would have been the beloved three-night Honda Celebration of Light. Municipal funding is making this free community event possible, serving as a bridge year while organizers work toward reviving the full international competition format in 2027.

The 2026 Honda Celebration of Light was cancelled in late 2025 when organizers couldn't lock down the necessary government and private-sector backing to cover escalating costs — the first time the event had been scrubbed outside of pandemic years in over three decades.

This year's fireworks will kick off a jam-packed long weekend, coinciding with both the B.C. Day holiday and Vancouver Pride weekend festivities.

What to expect on the night

While Summer Lights won't feature the full pre-show programming fans remember — no air show, no drone display — the main event over English Bay promises to deliver every bit of the pyrotechnic magic. Vancouver's own BrandLive, the team behind the Celebration of Light for the past 15 years, is producing the show, with Winnipeg-based Archangel Fireworks handling the actual display design.

The 25-minute fireworks show kicks off at the traditional 10 p.m. sharp, launched from a barge anchored in the middle of English Bay. It's a pyromusical performance, so tune your radio to Rock 101 for the live simulcast soundtrack.

Prime viewing stretches across English Bay Beach, Sunset Beach Park, and the Stanley Park seawall. Across the water, Vanier Park and Kitsilano Beach offer excellent alternative vantage points. With this being Vancouver's only free public fireworks event of the summer, expect serious crowds — arrive early to claim your spot. Beach-goers should note the high tide peaks at 4.5 metres around 8:46 p.m.

Weather-wise, the forecast is looking ideal for Friday evening.

Food trucks roll in at 3 p.m. along Beach Avenue beside English Bay Beach. Live music kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on the English Bay Bathhouse rooftop with DJ Remsta, followed by performances from Carlotta Gurl, Eva Lasting, and Celestial Seasonings starting at 7:30 p.m.

Getting there: road closures and transit

Driving? Don't. Parking throughout the downtown peninsula and Kitsilano will be virtually non-existent, and traffic delays are guaranteed.

Road closures in the West End — roughly west of Burrard Street and south of West Georgia Street — take effect at 5 p.m. and are scheduled to lift around 11:30 p.m., depending on how quickly the crowds disperse.

TransLink is stepping up big for the night. Pre-event shuttle buses will run from SkyTrain's Burrard Station to Denman and West Georgia between 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. After the show, catch special shuttles from Bidwell and West Georgia back to Burrard Station and Waterfront Station.

SkyTrain will operate at two-to-three-minute headways before and after the fireworks. Expect modified entry procedures at Burrard, Granville, and Waterfront stations. Note: bikes are not allowed on SkyTrain after 10:30 p.m. Bus routes 5, 6, and 23 will be temporarily rerouted around the closures. SeaBus sails every 10 minutes from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., then every 15 minutes until the last departure from Waterfront at 1:22 a.m.
