Chiayi City
Chiayi City is located in southern Taiwan. Most of the attractions in Chiayi City are related to history. Among them, Lantan, formerly known as Hongmao Pi, is about 1 kilometre wide from east to west and about 2 kilometres long from north to south, with a gourd-shaped lake. In the 1620s, the Dutch dug the lake and built the embankment to train the navy for water battles. Today, it serves as the water source for Chiayi City and a popular spot for citizens to enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival moon. The Yimin Pagoda (Yimin Ta) next to Mituo Temple was built in 1938, enshrining 503 people who sacrificed their lives for the local community. Chiayi Park, covering over ten hectares, and the lush botanical garden provide citizens with spaces for activities and shade to escape the summer heat.
