Art enthusiasts visiting Canada this autumn have a new cultural stop to add to their itinerary. The Vancouver Art Gallery is presenting a solo exhibition by local artist Emily Hermant from 7 August to 22 November 2026. This showcase serves as the debut installation for the gallery's Vancouver Now! series, an initiative designed to feature contemporary artists with strong ties to the city.
Tactile Sculptures Crafted from Digital Waste

Situated on the gallery's 3rd Floor, the exhibition curated by Richard Hill highlights Hermant's intricate weavings made from recycled technological materials. Visitors can examine works constructed using discarded ethernet cable jackets, insulated telecommunication wires, heat shrink plastic caps, gypsum, and metal. The pieces present a physical manifestation of digital infrastructure, inviting viewers to pause and consider the tangible components behind virtual connectivity.
While appearing similar to traditional textiles or abstract paintings from a distance, seeing the installations in person reveals their detailed wire composition. Featured works include Talk Through Me (2024) and Billow (2020–21).
