NYC's First Sake Brewery Brings Back All-You-Can-Drink Sake Festival — 50+ Breweries, $50 Early-Bird

Brooklyn Kura is one of New York’s first sake breweries. Nestled inside the maze-like Industry City, the taproom honours Japanese brewing traditions with its zen-inspired space while crafting distinctly American sake — and it’s marking World Sake Day in style.

On October 2, Brooklyn Kura hosts its third annual Sake Day Brooklyn, welcoming more than 50 breweries, importers and producers — many travelling all the way from Japan.

“Ten years ago, to taste this variety of sake, you would have had to fly to Japan,” said Timothy Sullivan, director of education at the Sake Studies Center. “On October 2nd, it’s all in one taproom in Sunset Park — the classics from Japan next to sake brewed right here in New York. That’s exactly what Sake Day [Brooklyn] is for.”

The line-up features selections from Hakkaisan and HEAVENSAKE, plus pours from importers Komé Collective and Sake Suki. Local representation comes from Brooklyn Kura itself, Bushwick’s Kato Sake Works and Hyde Park’s Dassai Blue.

The festival features a live DJ and raffles, with sake classes at the Sake Studies Center and Brooklyn Kura up for grabs. Five food vendors will serve oysters, ramen and onigiri for purchase, and ticket holders can join a free brewery tour of the tanks and koji room — arrive early, as tours are first-come, first-served.

Sake Day Brooklyn runs from 5pm to 9pm on October 2. Early-bird tickets cost just $50 before rising to $65 on September 5. The event tends to sell out, so book early if you’re a sake fan.
