Vancouver's Granville Pedestrian Zone becomes an open-air disco before summer ends
A little of that World Cup magic is returning to Granville Street before the season wraps up. Public Disco is popping up for three days of unforgettable street-party energy, with DJs across three stages and plenty of all-ages activities. If you've been missing the buzz of Vancouver's time as a FIFA World Cup host city, here's your chance to soak it up a while longer.
How long will the Granville Pedestrian Zone remain?
The now-iconic pedestrian zone has been extended through Sept. 6, but things haven't felt quite the same since the World Cup ended and the crowds thinned out. This series of disco parties aims to change all that.
Earlier this summer, Vancouver City Council voted to keep the car-free fun going, and the Province extended liquor and patio licenses through Labour Day on Sept. 7—so the outdoor rallying, singing, dancing, eating and drinking is still very much on.
We're all for stretching summer out as long as possible!
When are the disco parties?
Public Disco returns to Granville Street on Aug. 12, Aug. 18 and Sept. 2 from 4 to 9 p.m., with the festivities spanning the 700, 900 and 1100 blocks of Granville.
While programming details are still scarce, the event will feature DJs and street dancing alongside interactive activities, a kids' zone, outdoor chess and dance groups performing on stage.
