Flagship 50,000 sq ft Safeway Opening at Vancouver Oakridge Park Mall This Month
After more than six years since the original location closed, Safeway is making its long-awaited return to the Oakridge site. The new flagship grocery store at Oakridge Park mall will welcome shoppers starting Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 10 a.m., with a grand opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. featuring a ribbon cutting and cultural performances.

Spanning over 50,000 square feet across two underground levels accessible from the mall south atrium, this is one of the largest Safeway locations in Metro Vancouver. But this is no ordinary supermarket: the store boasts a dedicated Global Market section with an international product focus, an expanded prepared foods department offering in-store sushi, Asian hot foods, dim sum and buffet-style options, plus three live seafood tanks with a broad selection of fresh fish and shellfish. The upper level houses a pharmacy, Rachelle Bery wellness products, and a baby boutique.

The Safeway anchors the newly redeveloped Oakridge Park, which already features 650,000 square feet of retail and dining, over 100 brands, and the 51,000-square-foot Time Out Market food hall. While the mall has drawn attention for its concentration of luxury retailers, the Safeway adds an essential everyday shopping option to the mix.
Looking ahead, a newly expanded SkyTrain station entrance at Oakridge-41st Avenue is expected to open later this summer. Fairleigh Dickinson University will debut its 70,000-square-foot campus at the mall in September 2026. The City of Vancouver 100,000-square-foot civic centre including a new public library branch will follow next year, while much of the 7.5-acre rooftop public park is already open to visitors.
