Maria Celeste — Portuguese Tasca

Helmed by hospitality veterans and brothers Justin and Cristian Isidro, Maria Celeste pays homage to Portugal's beloved tascas — those everyday neighbourhood gathering spots where food, wine, and conversation flow effortlessly. Named after their mother, the 1,300-square-foot, 36-seat restaurant draws on the brothers' impressive pedigrees: Justin served as longtime director of operations at Michelin-starred Kissa Tanto, Meo, and Bao Bei, while Cristian honed his craft in kitchens from Kissa Tanto to London's Lisboeta and Porto's Cozinha das Flores.

"Growing up in Portugal, tascas were where everyone ended up on any given day because they were all about welcoming the whole community," Justin says. "That's the feeling we want the moment people walk through our doors — there's always a seat for you at our table."

Entrecôte Restaurant — Steak-Frites Done Right

If you've ever felt overwhelmed by a novel-length menu, Entrecôte Restaurant will be a revelation — because it serves exactly one main course. Occupying the former Dix space (which itself took over from Meet in Gastown in late 2025), Entrecôte keeps things beautifully simple: a $44 prix fixe menu featuring a fresh green walnut salad to start, followed by Entrecôte steak fries drizzled with the house "sauce secrète."

Salt& — Vancouver's Salt Bread Obsession

Salt bread has become something of a phenomenon in Vancouver, and Salt& is the newest contender in the craze. Taking over the former Footo Croissant and Dulcey Patisserie spot, the bakery serves specialty salt breads in flavours ranging from mocha and matcha cream to ham and cheese, plus coffee and matcha drinks including an iced mango matcha latte.

Cantina Social Club — Mexican Pop-Up

From the team behind Chupito comes Cantina Social Club, a Mexican cantina-inspired pop-up blending old-school drinking-house soul with contemporary Mexican cooking rooted in Pacific Northwest ingredients. The menu shifts with the seasons, local harvests, and the kitchen's creative whims. Running Wednesday through Saturday from 6pm till late inside Pinche Taco Shop, the space transforms nightly into a candlelit, greenery-draped cantina.

Hen — Authentic Thai Chicken Rice

Hen brings the art of Khao Man Gai (Thai chicken rice) to Vancouver. The soft-opening menu features four plates: The Original (poached chicken thigh with ginger rice and soybean sauce), The Crispy (crispy boneless chicken with ginger rice and Hen sriracha), The Mix (both poached and crispy), and The Heat (spicy crispy chicken). Thai iced tea and mango sticky rice round out the offering. This is the brand's second location, following its 2019 Boston debut.

Fans of Butter and Joy in Richmond or Nami Vietnamese will recognize the Buttercrumbs name — it's the brand behind those buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cookies baked fresh across the city. The team's latest pop-up has landed inside Bentall Centre, serving signature cookies alongside a curated drinks menu.

Veda — South Indian in Kitsilano

Formerly known as Benne, Veda is a new South Indian restaurant now open in Kitsilano. Expect dosas with house-made sambar and tomato-coconut chutney, small plates, and filter coffee courtesy of Alai Coffee Roasters. "Every dosa begins with naturally fermented batter. We grind our spices fresh, cook to order, and let simple ingredients do the work," says the team.

Gringo — Gastown Comeback

After announcing its closure, Gringo has officially reopened its iconic Blood Alley location. "Welcome back to Gringo Gastown," the team announced. The self-described "white-trash cantina meets all-inclusive resort" is beloved for its tacos, burritos, and literal buckets of booze.

Bloom Bakery and Cafe — 24/7 Downtown

Bloom Bakery and Cafe is a brand-new round-the-clock coffee shop in downtown Vancouver. Owner Shay, just 22, invested everything into building the dream from scratch. The menu features iced strawberry matcha lattes, iced banana bread lattes, almond croissants, apple fritters, and more.

Ông Bà Eatery — Coquitlam Expansion

Ông Bà Eatery has closed its tiny 16-seat Denman Street location and relocated to Coquitlam, expanding to an impressive 200 seats. Founded as an homage to owner Viet's grandparents, the restaurant combines Ông Bà classics with upgraded new dishes — everything, much like the space itself, has gotten a glow-up.
