Japan Festival Canada Brings Three Days of Japanese Food, Performances and Shopping to Mississauga This August
One of North America's largest Japanese cultural celebrations is returning to Mississauga's Celebration Square later this month, offering a free weekend of entertainment, cuisine, and hands-on cultural experiences.
Since its debut in 2016, Japan Festival Canada has grown into a marquee annual event that lets visitors immerse themselves in Japanese traditions — from classic stage performances to contemporary takes on beloved dishes — all without leaving the Greater Toronto Area.
The three-day program kicks off Thursday, August 14 with a dedicated marketplace running from 5pm to 10pm, where attendees can browse and shop from local vendors. The main festival follows on Friday, August 15 (noon to 11pm) and Saturday, August 16 (11am to 7pm), filling the weekend with live entertainment on the main stage alongside smaller interactive activations scattered across the grounds.
This year's headline performer is Japanese singer and voice actress Aika Kobayashi, best known for her work on Love Live! Sunshine!! and numerous anime soundtracks. Kobayashi will also host a ticketed fan meet-and-greet on August 15 at Hazel McCallion Central Library (11am, tickets from $54.58).
A full roster of local artists will round out the entertainment lineup, with the complete performance schedule and itinerary available on the festival's official website.
Japan Festival Canada takes place at Celebration Square, 300 City Centre Drive, Mississauga. Admission is free throughout the weekend.
