Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto

The Royal Ontario Museum was built in 1912 and is the fifth largest museum in North America, housing over 6 million precious artefacts from all over the world, including dinosaur skeletons, Buddhist statues, Chinese porcelain, and Egyptian mummies. It is a must‑visit attraction when travelling to Toronto.

The Royal Ontario Museum itself is a very classical building with exquisite carvings on the exterior. The new wing was completed in 2007 and designed by a German architect. The combination of classical and modern architectural styles makes the museum a landmark in Toronto.

Floor Distribution: The museum is divided into four floors

The first floor houses a vast collection of Chinese art and antiques, including ancient art, Buddhist art, architectural art, and sculptures. The two small halls on either side of the Chinese gallery are the Korean and Japanese galleries. The first floor also features a Canada gallery and a dinosaur gallery. In the Canada gallery, you can see tools used for making maple syrup.

The second floor mainly consists of animal exhibits. Besides the dinosaur gallery extending from the first floor, there are also specimens of birds and mammals.

The third floor features galleries dedicated to Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Africa, Europe, and South America. Here, you can see artefacts from the Mayan civilisation, Italian warrior armour, European glassware, Egyptian pottery and mummies, as well as crystals from Bolivia.

The fourth floor houses temporary exhibition halls. You can check the museum's official website in advance for upcoming special exhibitions.

The basement level has a restaurant, a café, a small theatre, and a reception centre for children's learning.

‑ Children under 4 years old (excluding) can enter for free, no ticket required.

‑ Coats, bags, and luggage can be checked in, but an additional fee applies.

‑ Strollers can be rented for 2 Canadian dollars at the cloakroom (subject to availability).

‑ Please set your mobile phone to silent mode, as mobile phone use may be restricted during certain special exhibitions.

‑ Each ticket can only be scanned and used once. If duplicate tickets appear, the museum reserves the right to refuse entry to all ticket holders.

‑ If applicable, you may be asked to present a student card or other identification on the day of your visit.

‑ All tickets are final sale. Tickets are non‑refundable and non‑exchangeable.
