Over 20 Sunflower Varieties Now Blooming at Richmond Country Farms Near Vancouver

Sunflower lovers, rejoice: Richmond Country Farms has kicked off its annual Sunflower Festival, and the fields are bursting with colour just outside Vancouver.

Since August 2, the farm has been decked out with more than 20 distinct sunflower varieties — from classic golden blooms to the fluffy, crowd-favourite Teddy Bear sunflowers. Visitors are free to wander through the sprawling fields and soak up every shade of yellow imaginable.

Naturally, the festival doubles as a photographer's dream, with endless backdrops for that perfect summer shot.

According to Richmond Country Farms, the flower show doesn't stop at sunflowers — dahlias and wildflowers are also in full bloom for the duration of the event.

Beyond the blossoms, the festival packs in plenty of activities. Take a wagon ride through the property, hop aboard the CP Huntington Train, or browse a rotating lineup of local food trucks. Families can meet the farm's resident animals, making it an easy day trip that keeps kids and adults alike entertained as summer winds down.

Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome to join the fun too.

Admission and hours

The festival soft-launched on August 2 and now runs daily: noon to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and from 10 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Last entry is at 7 p.m., and the final wagon back to the parking area departs before dusk.

General admission ranges from $14 to $17 CAD for visitors aged 13 and up, depending on the day. Children and seniors pay $12, while kids aged two and under enter free. Tickets are available both online and at the gate — no advance purchase required.

Before heading home, swing by the Richmond Country Farms Market near the entrance. Stocked with seasonal produce, fresh-baked pies, jams, honey, snacks, potted plants, and cut flowers, it's the perfect spot to take a taste of farm life back to the city.

Look for the unmistakable red barn at the front of the property — you can't miss it.

Happy sunflower season, Vancouver!
