Canada's Wonderland Welcomes Its One Billionth Rider in a Surprise Celebration
Picture this: you roll up to Canada's Wonderland for a laid-back summer outing, only to find yourself unexpectedly written into the Vaughan amusement park's history books.
That surreal moment became a reality for one Ontario family of four who were enjoying their day at Wonderland when park officials revealed that someone in their group had officially become the park's one billionth rider.
John and Kim S., together with their children Annabelle and John Jr., were aboard the Thunder Run roller coaster when Christopher Mortensen, president of Canada's Wonderland, came through the station speakers to announce that their daughter had just hit the historic milestone.
"Reaching one billion riders is an incredible moment in Canada's Wonderland's history. For more than four decades, our guests have trusted us to be part of their family traditions and most memorable moments," Mortensen shared in a blog post on the Six Flags official website.
In recognition of the occasion, the Kingston-based family were greeted by Snoopy himself and presented with a Canada's Wonderland prize bundle that included park merchandise, complimentary return tickets, and Fast Lane Plus vouchers.
While Annabelle earned the title of one-billionth rider on Thunder Run, it is actually Dragon Fyre that claims the crown as the park's most-ridden attraction. The 78-foot-tall helix coaster has carried an impressive 45.7 million riders since the park first opened its gates in 1981.
Canada's Wonderland continues to be a beloved summer destination for countless families, offering everything from creative food experiences to the Splash Works water park, plus more than 200 attractions — including a diverse lineup of roller coasters sure to thrill visitors of all ages.
