SaveExpo '70 Commemorative Park in Suita City is pulling out all the stops for the Expo Summer Festival 2026, running for 27 days — mostly on weekends — from Friday, July 24 to Wednesday, September 23 (a national holiday). Now in its fourth edition, this year's theme is "Summer of the Reiwa Era, Summer of the Showa Era," with the entire park wrapped in spectacular illuminations.

The festival is split into two main zones. First, Illuminight Expo transforms the area around the iconic Tower of the Sun into a fantasy lightscape — the perfect after-dark photo backdrop. Then there's the Expo Night Market with Beer Garden, a sprawling food-and-drink village with street-food stalls, izakaya-style menus for beer lovers, sweets, and plenty of seating. Daily stage programming keeps the energy high all evening: Bon Odori dancing, DJ sets, and live music performances from nearby university clubs.
A first for 2026: the Dream Pond — the very spot that hosted nighttime shows during the 1970 World Expo — will glow in electric blue. On its eastern side, a dedicated Fireworks Plaza lets visitors enjoy handheld sparklers under the stars, an experience designed to enchant every generation.
Mark your calendar for Sunday, September 13, when the Mangeki Summer Festival returns to the Festival Square. Originally launched last year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Kamigata Manzai Association (Osaka's homegrown comedy tradition), this comedy-and-music extravaganza is back by popular demand.
All of this unfolds beneath the Tower of the Sun, silhouetted against the night sky — a summer memory you won't find anywhere else.
