1. Minoo Park

Minoo Park is a national park spread over the mountain slopes and forests of northern Osaka, and one of the most popular day-trip destinations from central Osaka — reachable in about 30 minutes by train. During autumn the park’s many trees burst into astonishing color. The highlight is Minoo Falls, a 33-meter waterfall with dramatic scenery, reached along a pleasant 2.8 km hiking route.

2. Katsuoji Temple

Katsuoji is a Buddhist temple near Minoo Park. Famous for its Daruma dolls — symbols of success and victory — it draws worshippers from across Japan seeking luck. It is also one of Osaka’s best autumn foliage spots: colorful leaves fill the vast temple grounds and surrounding hills, and a nighttime illumination is held during peak season.

Access: 20 min by bus from Senri-Chuo Station, or 15 min by taxi from Minoo Station

3. Osaka Castle

Osaka Castle is one of Japan’s greatest castles and the city’s most iconic landmark. It is worth visiting year-round, but it truly shines in seasonal scenery such as cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. Colorful foliage can be seen around the castle and park, including a 1 km ginkgo avenue and maples in yellow, red and orange.

4. The Ginkgo Avenue at Midosuji Boulevard

No time to leave the city? You can still enjoy autumn in central Osaka. Midosuji Boulevard, the city’s main north-south avenue, runs through Umeda, Nakanoshima, Shinsaibashi, Dotonbori, Ame-mura and Namba. More than 900 ginkgo trees line over 4 km of the street, turning a stunning gold in fall — perfect for strolling, shopping and dining beneath the canopy.

5. Hoshida Park

Hoshida Park is a vast park in Katano City, within an hour of central Osaka. It sits inside Osaka Fumin no Mori, a forest of eight parks, with numerous hiking trails. Its landmark, Hoshi no Buranko — a 280-meter suspension bridge — offers a panoramic view over the forest. A favorite day-trip destination, the park is especially magical in autumn when the forest glows with color from mid-November to early December.
