▼Hakone Shrine & Lake Ashi Torii Gate on the Lake (Approx. 80 minutes, free time available)

Lake Ashi is a volcanic crater lake located at the foot of Mount Hakone. Formed approximately 3,000 years ago, it is the largest lake in Kanagawa Prefecture. It is a well‑known tourist destination and a famous spot for viewing Mount Fuji in the distance. The red torii gate standing on Lake Ashi is a landmark of Hakone Shrine.

【Hakone Shrine】

Hakone Shrine was founded by the monk Mangan Shonin in 757 on Mount Hakone, which has long been regarded as a major sacred site of mountain worship. It was revered by many warriors throughout history, including Minamoto no Yoritomo and Tokugawa Ieyasu. Since ancient times, Hakone Shrine has been venerated as the premier shrine of the Kanto region, known as Hakone Daigongen. It is worshipped as a god of good fortune, believed to be highly efficacious for traffic safety, wish fulfilment, successful romance, and warding off evil and bad luck.930-箱根神社.jpg

【Torii Gate on the Lake】: The reflection of the torii gate together with the silhouette of Mount Fuji on the lake surface is truly a breathtaking sight — it is hard to find better words to describe such a magnificent view.

Recommended photo spot: Narukawa Art Museum Café — enjoy the scenic beauty of Lake Ashi and masterpieces of modern Japanese painting at the same time.

Address: 570 Motohakone, Hakone‑machi, Ashigarashimo‑gun, Kanagawa Prefecture

The museum houses approximately 4,000 masterpieces representing modern Japanese painting, including famous works such as "Cat" by Kayama Matazo. On the first floor, there is an observation deck offering stunning views of Lake Ashi. Through a 50‑metre‑long glass window, visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Ashi and the surrounding mountains — a truly picturesque and mesmerising view.

Admission fee not included: Narukawa Art Museum reference admission fee: 1,500 yen per person

▼Hakone Pirate Ship — Motohakone Port to Togendai Port Route (Approx. 25 minutes; if not taking the pirate ship, you will travel by coach to Togendai Ropeway Station)

Among the sightseeing boats on Lake Ashi, the pirate ship is definitely the most distinctive choice — cruise the lake and enjoy the stunning scenery to the fullest.

The Hakone Sightseeing Boat is a major highlight of Lake Ashi, one of Hakone's most popular attractions! Sightseeing boats can be boarded at three ports around the lake — Hakone‑machi Port, Motohakone Port, and Togendai Port. The three boats are Royal II, Victory, and Queen Ashinoko. Departing from Motohakone Port, you can simultaneously enjoy the magnificent views of the great torii gate, Mount Fuji, and Lake Ashi. Therefore, departing from Motohakone Port is highly recommended! On clear days, the shimmering lake surface against the blue sky creates a spectacular and breathtaking view.

Motohakone Port to Togendai Port: approximately 30 minutes one‑way by pirate ship, 1,200 yen one‑way (fare not included)

▼Hakone Ropeway — Togendai Station to Owakudani Route (Approx. 30 minutes, ropeway fare included)

The Hakone Ropeway offers the most beautiful scenery near Owakudani and between Owakudani and Ubako, where you can see the magnificent Mount Fuji. The first half of the journey between Ubako and Togendai mainly offers views of the volcanic crater lake scenery of Lake Ashi. 930-箱根空中缆车.jpg

▼Owakudani — Experience the Volcanic Breath that Nurtures the Beauty of Hakone (Approx. 50 minutes, free time available)

Owakudani is located within Hakone city at the southeastern foot of Mount Fuji and is one of Hakone's most famous tourist attractions. Owakudani, Japan's renowned tourist destination, is a volcanic crater formed by a massive volcanic eruption on the northern hillside of Mount Kamiyama during the final stages of Hakone's volcanic activity approximately 4,000 years ago. Most of the spring water in Owakudani is toxic, hence it was originally known as "Great Hell". It was only renamed Owakudani in 1876 when Emperor Meiji visited the area.930-大涌谷.jpg

Owakudani's Famous Delicacy — Black Eggs

About a 15‑minute walk from the entrance of the Nature Study Trail, there is a small shop called "Tamago Chaya" in the midst of the rising steam. The famous black eggs boiled on site next to the shop are said to "extend your life by 7 years for each one eaten". The black eggs are boiled in a hot spring pool at approximately 80 degrees Celsius for one hour, and then steamed with 100‑degree steam for 15 minutes. The reason the white eggs turn pitch black is that the iron content and hydrogen sulphide in the hot spring pool react with the countless pores on the eggshell surface, forming black iron oxide.930-大涌谷黑鸡蛋.jpg

▼Lake Yamanaka Swan Beach — Capture the Perfect Photo with Swans and Mount Fuji in the Same Frame (Approx. 20 minutes)

Located on the shores of Lake Yamanaka, one of the Fuji Five Lakes, this area is known as "Swan Beach" due to the large number of swans that inhabit the area. Not only can visitors observe wild birds here, but it is also the best spot for photographing swans against the backdrop of Mount Fuji. The swans here are very accustomed to humans as they are frequently fed by visitors.

▼Oshino Hakkai (Approx. 40 minutes)

"Oshino Hakkai" refers to eight clear springs formed by the snowmelt of Mount Fuji filtering through the ground layers. Oshino Hakkai is renowned for its beautiful natural environment. The shimmering pond waters blend harmoniously with the majestic Mount Fuji, creating a magnificent and breathtaking sight that attracts countless photographers who travel great distances to capture the scenery. Oshino Hakkai is a nationally designated natural monument.

Return to central Tokyo. The return time is for reference only and may be earlier depending on a smooth itinerary and good traffic conditions. (Approx. 1.5 to 2 hours by car). Arrive back at the hotel/guesthouse and enjoy the remainder of your day! The pick‑up order and times will be arranged by the driver based on the distance of the journey. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation, and kindly ask you to follow the driver's arrangements.
