Borgarnes
Borgarnes is located in western Iceland, about an hour's drive from Reykjavík, and serves as the gateway to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The town is renowned for the Viking history of the Egil's Saga, and the Settlement Centre vividly presents Iceland's settlement and Viking legends through multimedia. Skeggjagrafir Garden features the legendary burial site of a Viking chieftain. Nearby attractions include the fantastic Hraunfossar lava waterfall and Europe’s most voluminous hot spring, Deildartunguhver. The local cuisine highlights traditional Icelandic fish soup, smoked salmon, and reindeer meat, while the cinnamon rolls and flatbread at local cafés are classic tea-time treats.
