Opened in March 2026, Oimachi Tracks and MoN Takanawa draw visitors south of the city center to the Shinagawa/Oimachi area — each in a different way. Oimachi Tracks is a station-side urban complex bringing together a hotel, dining, wellness facilities and train-view spaces, while MoN Takanawa is a brand-new cultural space where art, architecture and local stories meet. As Japan pushes ahead with next-generation maglev construction, these developments show Tokyo is still evolving around its railways — trains are no longer just transport, but a source of new discoveries and surprises.
Stay, Gaze and Experience a New Way to Explore the City — Oimachi Tracks
Located right next to JR Oimachi Station, Oimachi Tracks is a new mixed-use complex that fuses railway and urban development, combining a hotel, offices, residences, shops, restaurants and public spaces. A newly built "TRACKS Exit" at JR Oimachi Station connects directly to the facility, and the outdoor mall "SHOPS & RESTAURANTS" lets you stroll through open space and browse the shops. Just 30 minutes by train from Haneda Airport, it is a superb choice for a pre- or post-flight stay and an ideal base for exploring Shinagawa and the Tokyo waterfront.
The flagship "JR East Hotel Mets Oimachi Tracks" offers 285 rooms designed around a "Forest Cottage" concept with a calm, refined atmosphere; the "TRACKS-VIEW" rooms overlook the railway yard, a special treat for rail fans and families. On the 26th floor, "The TRAVELERS HOUSE ROOFTOP BAR" commands views of Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, Haneda Airport, Odaiba and the tracks below — non-guests are also welcome to enjoy signature Tiki drinks. "Tachi-Nomi 8" serves selected sake, original cocktails and small plates for a taste of Oimachi's food culture, while the attached "SAUNA METSA OIMACHI TRACKS" offers bathing, a cold plunge and relaxation spaces to add a wellness touch to your Tokyo itinerary.
See Tokyo Through Fresh Eyes — MoN Takanawa (The Museum of Narratives)
A 6-minute walk from Takanawa Gateway Station, "MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives" is a new hybrid museum connected directly to the station, built around the concept of "culture that connects the next 100 years." The name "MoN" stands for Museum of Narratives and also echoes the Japanese word for "gate" (mon) and the act of asking a question. Its facade was designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates; it is not a conventional museum but an ever-evolving cultural space whose exhibitions, performances and programs change regularly, so every visit feels different.
The most striking feature inside is a large tatami area made from antibacterial recycled tea-leaf material that balances sustainability and hygiene, open to everyone for relaxation. Visitors can gaze at multiple railway lines converging from the "Train Terrace," and the rooftop has a solar-powered footbath terrace, a garden and a shrine (Mon Jinja) — an ideal place to rest mid-stroll. The museum also plans programs on traditional Japanese performing arts, some with English audio guides and other multilingual support. Combine a visit with Oimachi Tracks: both are highly accessible and reveal a side of Tokyo that remains largely undiscovered.
