Barcelona Gets Another Two-Hour Eclipse on August 2, 2027: The Best Places to See It in Catalonia

The 2027 eclipse will reach a maximum partiality of 81.6% in Barcelona, rising further in the municipalities of southern Tarragona.

The eclipse of August 12 left us all speechless — a one-of-a-kind event that experts had been waiting years for, given how many astronomical factors aligned on the same date and at the same moment.

But such coincidences never come alone, and luckily we only have to wait a year for the next one: on August 2, 2027, Barcelona will experience a new partial solar eclipse.

This time, maximum partiality will reach 81.6%, the phenomenon will last 2 hours and 20 minutes, and it will peak at 10:58 am, leaving the Sun in a perfect position to be enjoyed from almost any point in the city.

In Catalonia, the best visibility will once again be in the south of Tarragona province. Municipalities bordering Castellón province, such as Alcanar, Ulldecona, Godall and La Sénia, will be the most suitable spots to watch the event — both for its duration and its percentage of totality, higher than anywhere else in the region. In the rest of Spain it also won't be visible as a total eclipse, with the exception of Ceuta, Melilla, much of Cádiz province and parts of Málaga, Granada and Almería.

This August's eclipse showed how many people astrotourism draws, and how much accommodation prices can climb around such an event — especially when booked at short notice. So if you're thinking of heading to a spot with better visibility, we recommend planning well ahead.

If for any reason you can't catch this one, don't worry — in January 2028 we'll witness the last of three eclipses in three years visible from the Iberian Peninsula. This one will be a little different, though: it'll be an annular eclipse, meaning the Moon won't fully cover the Sun and a "ring of fire" will appear around it.
