Akkeshi, a town facing the Pacific Ocean in southeastern Hokkaido, is renowned for its high-quality oysters. Nurtured by the cold, nutrient-rich waters of Akkeshi Bay, the town is famous for oysters available year-round. The festival takes place in autumn, when the oysters become plump and reach their peak flavor. At Nenohi Park, visitors will find a bounty of fresh seafood, including famous locally branded oysters such as "Kaki-emon" and "Maru-emon," along with fresh clams and scallops.
The highlight of the festival is the hands-on grilling experience. Rental grills, charcoal, and tongs are available at the venue, allowing visitors to grill their seafood right on the spot. Listen to the charcoal crackle as the savory aroma of grilling oysters fills the air. Each bite delivers rich, creamy umami that captures the essence of Akkeshi's coastal bounty.
