Ask us, and NSW is one of the most beautiful places on Earth — but when we picture the prettiest spots, golden beaches, magical hinterland pockets and rugged red outback usually spring to mind. Look a little closer at our cities and country towns, though, and you'll uncover streetscapes that could pass for real-life postcards. From purple-draped jacaranda canopies to historic sandstone precincts and ocean-facing boulevards, here are eight of the most beautiful streets in NSW worth wandering at least once.

1. Tasman Drive, Gerringong

Just two hours from Sydney, this South Coast residential road has become a social media sensation — and with good reason. Rolling down the hill, you're met with sweeping views of emerald pastures plunging straight off dramatic sea cliffs into the Pacific.

2. McDougall Street, Sydney

Sitting right on the fringes of Sydney Harbour, this lower North Shore street is the ultimate springtime destination as its vivid jacarandas burst into life. At full bloom in October and November, the trees reach toward one another to form a flowering arch — a fairytale scene on the street below.

3. Queen Street, Berry

Lined with beautifully preserved 19th-century storefronts, historic timber verandas and leafy deciduous trees, Berry's main drag delivers textbook country-town charm. As the town's beating heart, Queen Street is packed with cute cafes, boutique homeware stores and relaxed pubs to explore at your own pace. That said, some of Berry's real gems sit just off the main strip — South on Albany and the Berry General Store are our must-visits.

4. Leura Mall, Leura

Framed by towering plane trees and lined with heritage shopfronts, Leura Mall is Blue Mountains village charm distilled. The main street is dotted with cosy cafes, old-school bakeries, boutiques and antique shops — an easy place to while away a slow morning before heading out on a nearby hike.

Just inland from Byron Bay, Bangalow has enjoyed something of a foodie renaissance in recent years — but even if you can't snag a table at Ciao Mate or You Beauty, this picture-perfect town is still worth the visit. With heritage shopfronts, wide pavements and shady trees, Byron Street is the kind of country main street that begs you to slow down, with independent boutiques, galleries, cafes and pubs tucked behind its colourful verandahs.

6. Beyers Avenue, Hill End

Running through the historic gold-mining village of Hill End, Beyers Avenue feels like a little time capsule. Surrounded by weathered timber buildings, old verandas and remnants of the town's gold-rush past, this unassuming street offers a special glimpse into one of NSW's most historic towns.

7. Moss Vale Road, Kangaroo Valley

Winding through the heart of Kangaroo Valley, Moss Vale Road is less about a perfectly preserved main street and more about the scenery surrounding it. Rows of charming country buildings are framed by magical rolling green hills and dramatic sandstone escarpments, with the river bubbling below and the historic Hampden Bridge serving as a grand gateway into town.
