Kicking off in the heart of Milan is an unmissable series of cult films tackling the most topical themes tied to technological evolution, from artificial intelligence to digital transformation, offering a curious look and a chance to reflect on the ethical, social and cultural challenges that emerge.

STEP FuturAbility District presents the third edition of "Tech, si gira!"

A series featuring 9 cult films

Mark your calendars — the series offers one screening a month: from 29 January to 26 November, visitors can enjoy no fewer than nine films. Under the scientific direction of Massimo Temporelli, physicist, science communicator and curator of the series, each screening is followed by an engaging conversation with prominent guests and an open debate with the audience.

The relationship between humanity and technology

The 2026 edition, continuing the first two, focuses on the relationship between humanity and the technologies it imagines, designs and builds, seeking to understand which dreams and fears these project into our species' culture.

This year in particular, ample space is given to robotics — a fast-growing field set to have major social, technological and economic repercussions in the coming years — and to longevity, another rapidly growing trend in which technology and biology merge, changing our relationship with time.

"This year, too, 'Tech, si gira!' aims to be a compass for navigating a fast-moving present," says Cristina Paciello, Head of STEP. "Cinema is a powerful mirror of our dreams and fears about technology. With the films and guests chosen, we want to offer the public not only a vision, but also the tools for critical, informed debate on topics such as robotics and longevity, which are already shaping our tomorrow."

The initiative is produced in collaboration with NTT DATA, a world leader in technology services and digital business, which shares STEP's mission of promoting a culture of innovation accessible to all.

The full programme of the third edition

29 January: The Social Network (2010) by David Fincher. An analysis of Facebook's origins and its impact on society, followed by a dialogue with content creator and author Sofia Viscardi and Luca Mazzucchelli, one of the most authoritative voices in popular psychology, on the influence of social media on relationships and new communication models.
19 February: Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World (2016) by Werner Herzog. An exploration of the origins of the Internet and the possible futures of AI. Emiliano Audisio (WIRED Italia) and Maurizio Melis (Radio24) reflect on the cultural, economic and technological challenges of contemporary hyper-connectivity.
11 March: Snowden (2016) by Oliver Stone. A dialogue with sinologist Giada Messetti and digital-transformation expert Roberta Cocco offers geopolitical and cultural perspectives on privacy, data control and technological governance.
9 April: A special evening in collaboration with the Reply AI Film Festival, screening six short films made with the support of artificial intelligence (Carousel, Clown, Corrupt Data Clan, Instinct, Love at First Sight, Not Chosen, The Cinema That Never Was, UN Rêve Liquide), followed by a discussion with directors Andrea Lommatzsch and Jacopo Reale and Reply CTO Filippo Rizzante on new visual languages and the relationship between innovation and creativity.
14 May: The Wild Robot (2024) by Chris Sanders. Participants include Federico Cella, Corriere della Sera journalist and STEP Scientific Committee member, and Alessandra Sciutti, head of the CONTACT group at the Italian Institute of Technology.
4 June: The Terminator (1984) by James Cameron. A timeless classic for discussing AI and future scenarios. Guests of the evening are Federico Cabitza, academic and STEP Scientific Committee member, and Emanuele Micheli, President of Scuola di Robotica.
10 September: Bicentennial Man (1999) by Chris Columbus. A reflection on identity, technology and life extension, with Chiara Schettino (Co-Founder and CEO of Rosso) and Alessandro Maiocchi (Innovation Hub Director of the Bracco Group) exploring the role of innovation and medicine in redefining care and longevity.
15 October: WALL·E (2008) by Andrew Stanton. Special guests Ludovico Diaz (CEO of NTT DATA Italia, partner of STEP and of the series) and Luca Foresti (CEO and Founder of FirstPrinciples.it) on innovation, sustainability and the social impact of emerging technologies.
26 November: Ghost in the Shell (1995) by Mamoru Oshii. The series closes with a masterpiece of Japanese animation. A talk by astrophysicist and science communicator Luca Perri offers a specialist look at the relationship between science and science fiction.
