Barcelona's secret 'beach' at 500 metres: sun loungers, interactive fountains and free entry to beat the heat

Summers in Barcelona have turned into an endless loop: red alerts, heatwaves and one temperature record after another. That spiral forces us to constantly hunt for places to shelter from the heat and to dream up ever more creative ways to stay cool. Among all the options, there's one cool spot in one of Barcelona's most iconic spaces: Tibidabo.

Counter-intuitive as it may seem, this "beach" sits 500 metres up, at the highest point of the city. It's a free space in the Tibidabo Panoramic Area, reachable simply by following the Camí del Cel path, right next to the Beyond ride.

It's a zone fitted with water games that combine jets of water with lights, sounds and colours. Opened in 2017, the leisure area has now been transformed into an artificial beach.

The park's "Bombers" entertainment team has also joined in, roaming the grounds and spraying visitors to cool them down. Entry is completely free, though limited to the park's opening hours: from 11am to 10pm during August.

A summer full of new things at Tibidabo

The amusement park turns 125 in 2026, and Barcelona City Council has marked the occasion by refreshing its offering with improved spaces and new children's shows.

Throughout August, from 9.30pm, the Laser Show returns — an immersive musical spectacle for all ages. The dining at the Masía Tibidabo restaurant has also been revamped, so you can round off the experience with top-notch cuisine.
