Swimming in the Seine Returns for Summer 2026: 8 Free & Supervised Sites Across Paris & Île-de-France
Swimming in the Seine and Marne rivers is back for a second consecutive summer! In 2026, eight free and supervised swimming sites open across Paris and the Île-de-France region — three within the capital, four in the Val-de-Marne department, and one brand-new spot in Seine-Saint-Denis. After last year's debut season drew nearly 100,000 swimmers to the Seine and 50,000 to the Marne, it's time to dust off that swimsuit from 20 June through late August.
Three Seine Swimming Spots in Paris (4 July – late August 2026)
All three are free of charge:
• Bras de Grenelle — 15th arrondissement, facing Île aux Cygnes
• Bercy — 12th arrondissement
• Bras Marie — 4th arrondissement, facing Île Saint-Louis. Now relocated closer to Pont Louis-Philippe, this spot is accessible all day (last year it was mornings only), with piles securing the swimming zone. Authorities confirm zero health incidents were reported throughout the 2025 season.
Five Marne River Swimming Sites
Four sites return in Val-de-Marne, plus one new addition in Seine-Saint-Denis:
• Joinville-le-Pont — 20 June – 31 August
• Saint-Maur-des-Fossés — 20 June – 19 July
• Maisons-Alfort — 20 June – 31 August
• Champigny-sur-Marne — 4–19 July
• Neuilly-sur-Marne (new — Rives de Paris) — Summer 2026
More Swimming Sites on the Horizon
Local authorities are already planning ahead: new sites upstream and downstream of Paris are under consideration for 2027 and beyond. The newly elected Mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire, has expressed his ambition to create a swimming zone in the Bassin de l'Arsenal, at the foot of Place de la Bastille.
⚠️ Safety Warning
Authorities are urging visitors not to attempt wild swimming outside designated areas. The currents are strong, the riverbed is muddy with entangling plants, and boat traffic remains heavy on both the Seine and the Marne. Swim only in supervised zones, during official opening dates and hours.
