Taiwan's largest semi-indoor family recreation space — the "Kaohsiung Parent-Child Play Park" — officially opened today (8 August)! Located at the former TRA Kaohsiung Locomotive Depot, once dubbed the "Hospital for Trains," visitors can now explore its industrial heritage while enjoying over 30 free play facilities. From opening day through 23 August, three consecutive weekends will feature YOYO celebrity meet-and-greet sessions and a free outdoor water park.

A Heritage-Meets-Play Destination
The Kaohsiung City Government noted that the original locomotive depot once served as the backbone of TRA train maintenance, witnessing Kaohsiung's rise as an industrial city and holding cherished memories for generations of residents. The revitalised space now houses the Kaohsiung Parent-Child Play Park, preserving its soaring steel structures, railway-inspired industrial architecture and select maintenance facilities. New attractions include a gantry crane rope course, bouldering wall, parkour training ground and wheeled ramp circuit — over 30 free installations transforming the former industrial site into a destination that blends history, culture, education and family fun.
Weekend-Only Outdoor Water Park
To make the most of summer holidays, the city government has set up weekend-exclusive outdoor facilities throughout August, including a 6-metre urban water slide, an outdoor splash zone, a carousel and an inflatable maze — all drawing crowds of eager families. The outdoor water park operates 8 sessions daily, each lasting 45 minutes. The park also offers guided cultural tours, taking visitors deep into the history of the TRA Kaohsiung Locomotive Depot.
