Notre-Dame de Paris Assumption 2026 Celebrations: Free Programme & Full Schedule

On 14-15 August 2026, Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral welcomes the faithful for the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, with services and a procession of the faithful. Here is the full programme.

Before it became a public holiday, the Assumption is first and foremost a religious feast celebrated worldwide by Catholics every 15 August, honouring "the death, resurrection, entry into heaven and coronation of the Virgin Mary". Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral will welcome visitors and pilgrims for services and a procession through the streets of the capital on 14 and 15 August.

Held annually since the 17th century, this traditional procession commemorates the Vow of Louis XIII, a legislative text that consecrated France under the protection of the Virgin Mary. Due to this solemnity, the cathedral will adapt its opening hours — visits will be reduced from 14 August at 3pm until the evening of 15 August. No group visits or individual reservations will be accepted, but the cathedral will remain open for prayer and liturgical celebrations.
