Originally launched in 1918, this beloved vehicle later served as a "Sasara Train" — a Hokkaido winter icon fitted with bamboo brushes to sweep snow from the tracks. Lovingly restored in 1993, it now operates from early summer through autumn. Since streetcars only run in Hakodate and Sapporo, riding this immaculately preserved piece of history is a rare treat.
Seating is reservation-only and assigned, ensuring a relaxed, unhurried experience. A dedicated conductor greets every passenger, distributes commemorative tickets, and happily helps with photos. Framed by steep hillsides and sparkling sea through the window, the Haikara-Go transcends mere transport — it becomes the highlight of your Hakodate adventure.
