The Magic Returns: An Annual Night-Time Tradition
As one of Kyoto Tea Country's most beloved annual evening events, Twinkle Joyo transforms the park into a dazzling wonderland. This year's edition takes visitors on a journey through ancient civilizations and the age of dinosaurs, delivering an adventure that thrills visitors of all ages.
Practical info: Illuminations run from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm, with a suggested donation of ¥100 per person. Several other locations around the city also feature seasonal light displays.
Behind the Lights: A Dino-Mite Experience for Everyone
We raced to the venue on opening day (December 1) and were instantly swept up in the magic. Walking through the glittering tunnels and encountering dinosaurs, pyramids, and even a sphinx makes every corner photo-worthy. Tasty festival food adds the finishing touch — it's a night that lights up smiles on kids and grown-ups alike.
Running through Christmas Day, Twinkle Joyo is the perfect excuse to bundle up and soak in Kyoto's winter glow.

The holiday season in Japan isn't about time off work — Christmas Eve is date night for couples, and spectacular illuminations are the main attraction. Families and friends also flock to the lights, and come Christmas Day, the quintessential celebratory feast is... fried chicken and cream-laden sponge cake.
