Toronto's Hottest New Restaurants: 14 Must-Try Openings for Summer 2026

From Japanese BBQ to bookshop cocktail bars, the city's dining scene is buzzing with fresh arrivals this July

Somehow it's already mid-July, and your summer bucket list is probably looking a little neglected. The good news? Toronto's restaurant scene is exploding with exciting new openings, and the long summer evenings are perfect for exploring them all.

Whether you've been glued to World Cup matches or simply lost track of what's new, we've got you covered. The city is brimming with fresh concepts — upscale Japanese BBQ, literary cocktail lounges, and grab-and-go pasta bars are all vying for your attention.

Summer is also prime time to revisit established favourites that have rolled out new seasonal menus or expanded their patios for open-air dining under the stars. And if you're craving a day trip, there are plenty of destination-worthy restaurants across Ontario worth the drive.

14 Standout New Openings to Add to Your List

The Dirty Laundry

Queen and Northcote just got a whole lot livelier. From Toronto bar veterans Robin Goodfellow and Aldo Pescatore-Tardioli comes this Tex-Mex party spot featuring retractable garage doors, weekend DJs, and service from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Chef Renelle Joubert's entirely gluten-free menu runs from nachos to enchiladas, all designed to pair perfectly with margaritas, cosmos, and large-format punches.

Eggslut

The Instagram-famous L.A. breakfast concept has finally landed on King Street West. Those legendary warm brioche buns — packed with cage-free eggs, thick-cut applewood bacon, caramelized onions and sriracha mayo — are now a Toronto morning staple. Grab Truffle Hashbrowns and French Toast Sticks on the side, washed down with local Hot Black Coffee.

Korean BBQ fans have a new downtown destination just steps from Bloor-Yonge Station. Jongro offers an all-you-can-eat experience complete with a full buffet and salad bar, starring marinated pork kalbi and garlic-seasoned brisket.

Arthur's Snackette

Montreal cult favourite Arthur's Nosh Bar has arrived in a St. Clair West laneway — and sold out within hours of opening. The sourdough bagels piled with lox and cream cheese, courtesy of Brodflour co-founder Dara Gallinger, are well worth the queue.

Shinji

The Financial District's steakhouse scene gets a Pacific-inspired upgrade at 333 Bay Street. Executive chef Jia Zou brings over a decade of fine-dining experience to this refined Japanese BBQ concept, pairing premium beef and sushi with an open robata grill and cocktails infused with shiso and Japanese whisky.

Book Bar

Mirvish Village welcomes a stunning three-floor Victorian townhouse that doubles as a bookstore and cocktail lounge. Browsing Canadian authors with a glass of wine in hand — or joining a romance fiction panel — is exactly the kind of cultured evening Toronto needed.

Afro's Pizza @ Stackt Market

Detroit-style, wood-fired personal pizzas have arrived at Stackt Market, topped with anything from Thai green curry shrimp and green mango to jerk chicken with coleslaw. No more braving the Sankofa Square crowds for that crispy-edged slice.

Archie's @ Broadview Hotel

While the rooftop grabs the skyline views, the Broadview Hotel's new ground-floor restaurant is making its own case. Archie's is a family-friendly neighbourhood hangout with elevated comfort food, pool tables, a photo booth, and screens for game day.

Santa Madre

Chef Luis Valenzuela's second east-end taqueria channels the affordable fonda restaurants of his native Mexico. Tacos, tortas and full weekend brunch in a colourful Little India setting — and tipping is not expected.

The Matcha Tokyo

The Japanese brand's first Canadian outpost lands in the west end, bringing 100% organic, pesticide-free matcha straight from Uji and Kagoshima farms. Expect traditional gold-blend brews, hojicha drinks, and a Toronto-exclusive nama matcha chocolate Basque cheesecake.

As We Do Chocolate

Chocolate wizard Brandon Olsen (Black Hoof, La Banane) has opened a 16,000-square-foot production facility in North York, crafting milk and dark bars alongside playful flavours like Cinnamon Brown Butter, Raspberry Fennel, and Morning Coffee.
