Kaya Fest Makes Canadian Debut Near Toronto: Stephen Marley's Reggae Festival with Busta Rhymes & Shabba Ranks
One of the planet's most celebrated reggae gatherings is crossing the border into Canada for the very first time. Kaya Fest, founded by Stephen Marley of the legendary Marley musical dynasty, will bring a powerhouse roster of reggae, dancehall, and Caribbean performers to Markham, Ontario, for a single-day summer spectacular.

This marks the festival's Canadian premiere — and its first edition anywhere since before the global pandemic — making it a significant milestone for the nation's live music landscape.
Named after Bob Marley's iconic 1978 album, Kaya Fest was conceived by nine-time Grammy winner Stephen Marley. But the event is about more than just music. The Marley family frames the festival as a platform for consciousness-raising, focusing on wellness and education through what they describe as "meaningful dialogue."
Having drawn enormous audiences in the United States during previous editions, organizers are billing this northern expansion as "a historic moment in Canadian music culture."
The lineup is nothing short of world-class. Alongside multiple members of the Marley family, fans can expect performances from Jamaican dancehall legend Shabba Ranks. Adding even more star power, the festival just confirmed rap heavyweight Busta Rhymes as the latest addition to an already formidable bill.
Canadian talent is also well represented on the stage. Homegrown artists featured on the lineup include Jully Black, Exco Levi, Kirk Diamond, and TOBi. Attendees will also enjoy sets from Rory of Stonelove, KC Clarke, and Jazzy T of Renaissance Sound, plus the Constance Bubble stage curated by DJ Shacia Päyne, featuring Nina Sky and DJ Mad Out. The complete performer list is available on the festival's official website.
Kaya Fest takes place on August 22 from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Markham Fairgrounds (10801 McCowan Road, Markham, Ontario). Ticket prices range from $99.99 to $329.99 plus applicable taxes, depending on the experience tier. Both general admission and VIP packages are currently available for purchase online.
