Those who have ridden the Peak Tram will surely agree that taking this esteemed and unique mode of transport is absolutely the best way to discover Hong Kong. The Peak Tram first commenced service on 30 May 1888, and every year, millions of visitors from around the world ride it to experience, from the most spectacular vantage point, the ever‑vibrant scenery of this dynamic city, as well as the natural beauty that lies just a stone's throw away.

930-4.jpg

The Peak is Hong Kong's premier tourist attraction. Aside from its breathtaking views and an abundance of shopping and dining delights, it also features a number of unique must‑see attractions, offering visitors a diverse range of experiences and allowing you to leisurely soak up Hong Kong's lifestyle and culture. To get to The Peak, riding one of the world's oldest and most famous funicular railways is definitely an unforgettable experience!

930-1.jpg

The entire railway is pulled by steel cables, with the train ascending the hillside at a slope from 28 metres to 396 metres (about 1,300 feet) above sea level, offering passengers panoramic views of Victoria Harbour along the way. Sitting inside the carriage, you can't help but lean backwards, as some sections of the route have gradients ranging between 4 and 27 degrees! The towering skyscrapers and lush foliage seem to tilt to one side — it's truly a remarkable sensation! The Peak Tram covers a total distance of 1,365 metres, and the computerised trains complete the journey in approximately 7 minutes. Each tram can carry up to 120 passengers at a time, including 95 seated and 25 standing, operating over 90 trips daily. The unique corrugated floor in the carriage is a distinctive design feature, designed to make it easier for passengers to stand on the slope.

930-3.jpg

The upper terminus is located on the third floor of the Peak Tower, where visitors can shop and dine, as well as visit the wax museum housed within. Of course, don't forget to admire the breathtaking night view of Hong Kong from the observation deck atop the Peak Tower!
