Product Details

Hidden deep in Guilin, Yanshan Garden is a private garden meticulously crafted by Tang Yue, a gentleman of the Qing Dynasty. Renowned as 'One of the Finest Gardens in Lingnan', it encapsulates the essence of Guilin's landscape gardens, blending the graceful elegance and winding seclusion of Jiangnan gardens with the open and majestic spirit of Lingnan's mountains and waters. Every step reveals a scene, each imbued with refined charm, quietly awaiting visitors to savour the passage of time.

Stepping into the garden, a tall, imposing wall immediately catches the eye, bearing the bold and vigorous inscription 'A Renowned Garden of Lingnan', instantly unveiling the mystery of this ancient estate. Inside, the Acacia River meanders slowly from south to north, like a green silk ribbon wrapping around the grounds. Along its banks, the Dragon Ridge Path twists and turns, its cobbled surface resembling dragon scales, while the circular backwater bay at the confluence with the river creates a delightful contrast. Viewed from above, it forms a vivid 'Two Dragons Playing with a Pearl' tableau, embodying the ingenuity and craftsmanship of ancient garden designers.

The garden's 'Four Treasures of Yanshan'—square bamboo, green plum blossoms, red beans, and osmanthus—are unique to Yanshan Garden. The red bean tree beside Acacia Rock is particularly special, bearing fruit once every three years, with beans three times larger than ordinary ones, vibrant red and plump, carrying the sentiment of longing. Adjacent to it, the Red Bean Cottage once served as the residence of historian Chen Yinke, its walls steeped in the fragrance of ink and books, adding a layer of cultural depth to the ancient garden.

The millennium‑old camphor king within the garden is another marvel. Having weathered the vicissitudes of time, it remains lush and thriving, its trunk so thick that it takes several people to encircle it. Seven branches extending from its waist are arranged like the Big Dipper, offering a majestic sight from afar and a robust, towering presence up close, silently recounting the ancient garden's thousand‑year stories.

The beauty of Yanshan Garden is never an instant dazzle but a refined elegance that requires a calm heart to slowly savour. Beyond the landscape, every corner—from the Qing Dynasty's old main building, the Grand Hall, to the ancient 'Gentleman's Pavilion' by the lake, and the former residence of Yue‑Sai Kan—holds traces of time. Strolling through, one feels as if traversing a century, conversing with the ancients, and experiencing the tender warmth of accumulated years.

There is no need to rush or chase the noise. Come to Yanshan Garden. Walk the Dragon Ridge Path, admire the Acacia River, behold the millennium‑old camphor king, and seek out the 'Four Treasures of Yanshan'. Amidst the winding paths, feel the collision of Jiangnan gardens and Lingnan landscapes; among the ancient architecture and scholarly fragrance, read the stories of time and humanity. Let every moment become unhurried and full of charm, as you embark on a gentle rendezvous with this ancient garden.
