Product Details

Nestled in the Feilai Peak Scenic Area of Lingyin Temple, northwest of Hangzhou's West Lake, this is a core treasure of the UNESCO World Heritage West Lake, and the most renowned Zen landscape and grotto art sanctuary in Jiangnan. It is not only the spiritual cultivation ground of the Southern Song Dynasty eminent monk Ji Gong, but also a must‑visit spiritual retreat for tourists coming to Hangzhou, with its fantastical caves, thousand‑year‑old carvings, and serene beauty.

The scenic area features two major attractions: Lingyin Temple and Feilai Peak. Lingyin Temple, first built in the first year of the Xianhe era of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, has a history of over 1,700 years. With its yellow walls and black tiles built against the mountain, and the continuous incense amidst the morning bells and evening drums, it is one of the "Five Sacred Mountains" of Jiangnan Zen Buddhism. Feilai Peak, also known as Lingjiu Peak, features rugged limestone terrain, with fantastical caves such as Qinglin Cave, Yuru Cave, and Longhong Cave crisscrossing each other. The babbling Cold Spring and ancient towering trees create a serene atmosphere of "hidden immortals".

What is most breathtaking is the collection of over 340 Buddhist grotto statues on Feilai Peak, dating from the Five Dynasties to the Song and Yuan Dynasties. As the largest existing grotto statue group in Jiangnan, they span a thousand years, perfectly integrating statues of bodhisattvas and eminent monks from different eras. From the solemn antiquity of the Five Dynasties, to the delicate and dynamic styles of the Song Dynasty, and the diverse charm of the Han‑Tibetan fusion in the Yuan Dynasty, each statue is engraved with the warmth of history, earning the title of "Open‑Air Grotto Art History". The smiling Maitreya Buddha in Qinglin Cave is endearing, the statues of the Six Patriarchs of Zen in Yuru Cave are simple and expressive, and the Tibetan Buddhist statues in Longhong Cave have a unique charm. Strolling among them, one feels as if travelling through time, touching the thousand‑year thread of Buddhist art.

This is a perfect blend of nature and humanity, where strange peaks and rocks coexist with the thousand‑year Buddhist charm, and serene landscapes complement the historical and cultural context. Whether exploring the legendary footsteps of Ji Gong, appreciating the artistic essence of the grotto statues, or seeking inner peace amidst the Zen landscape, the Lingyin Temple and Feilai Peak Scenic Area offers a unique experience.

Come to Hangzhou and embark on a thousand‑year Zen appointment. At Lingyin Temple and Feilai Peak, admire the fantastical caves, savour the thousand‑year Buddhist charm, and immerse your body and mind in the purest Zen landscape of Jiangnan, experiencing the cultural shock and spiritual cleansing that transcends time.
