Passing through shadowy lanes, the journey will take you to Canongate Kirkyard, the final resting place of Edinburgh’s most renowned figures. This historic cemetery is not just a burial ground; it is a cultural landmark bearing Scotland’s history, moving stories, and even literary inspiration. Established in the late 16th century, it has witnessed many significant moments in Scottish history.

Here, you will hear the tale of "Bloody Mackenzie", a 17th‑century prosecutor who is said to still haunt the kirkyard after his death. In 1999, when an unsuspecting man opened his tomb, it was claimed that Mackenzie’s ghost was released and still roams the grounds. The most famous story in the kirkyard is that of Greyfriars Bobby – the little dog who, after his owner John Grey’s death, faithfully guarded his master’s grave for 14 years until his own death in 1872. This loyalty, beyond a lifetime, moved all of Edinburgh, and a statue was erected in his honour.

At the heart of this ghost tour is an exclusive multi‑sensory experience. Using TourTalk audio devices paired with carefully selected Edinburgh sounds, you will be fully immersed in the city’s dark history. At the core of each experience are master storytellers who not only narrate stories but, through sound, atmosphere, and detail, make you feel as if you have travelled through time, personally experiencing those terrifying true events.

You will hear tales of notorious murderers – like serial killers Burke and Hare, who lured and killed 17 innocent people within a single year, selling the bodies to an anatomy professor at the University of Edinburgh. You will learn about cursed souls, locked in their homes to die during the plague or tormented in dark basements. You will feel the city’s dreadful past – those harsh lives and tragic deaths, all brought to life vividly through the guide’s narration.
