Hida‑Takayama is a mountain town often described as the "Little Kyoto of the Northern Alps", renowned for its well‑preserved Edo‑period streets, traditional craft culture and "Hida beef" cuisine. It is an ideal destination for experiencing Japan's rural charm and the allure of traditional handicrafts.

Hida beef (Hida gyu) is a premium brand of wagyu produced in the Hida region of Gifu Prefecture. It is celebrated for its fine marbled fat, melt‑in‑the‑mouth tenderness and rich, savoury "umami" flavour, and is regarded as one of the finest wagyu in Japan.

Shirakawa‑go Gassho Village is a fairytale‑like mountain village in the Gifu mountains, home to over 100 "Gassho‑zukuri" thatched‑roof farmhouses, surrounded by beautiful scenery in all four seasons and listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. It showcases Japan's rustic way of life in harmony with nature.

The "Ochudo Coffee Shop" (Kissa Ochudo) in the Gassho village is housed in a traditional Gassho‑zukuri thatched‑roof farmhouse, offering a tranquil experience of sitting around the hearth. You can choose from a selection of fine cups for your hot coffee, and signature offerings include all‑you‑can‑drink handmade "zenzai" (sweet red bean soup) and five‑grain rice curry — truly heart‑warming.

From the Gassho village observation deck: a winding old village street weaves through clusters of green or snow‑white Gassho houses, surrounded by mountains on all sides, making you feel as though you are standing inside a three‑dimensional Japanese pastoral painting. The interplay of light and shadow is most captivating in the early morning or at sunset.

In autumn, looking out from the Shirakawa‑go Gassho village observation deck, the mountains are dyed in gold and flaming red, with thatched roofs dotted among the scenery, resembling a colourful painting. The gentle autumn breeze makes the view warm and serene.

In winter, Shirakawa‑go is covered in thick snow, with the thatched roofs capped with snow like white hats. The entire village looks like a fairytale world, with wisps of smoke rising gently, reflecting a peaceful and tranquil winter atmosphere.

The Hida‑Takayama region is one of Japan's renowned sake‑producing areas, blessed with exceptional natural conditions such as a cold climate, clear underground water and high‑quality "Hida Homare" sake rice, giving local sake its distinctive flavour.

Attraction / Experience: 11:00, 2 hours 30 minutes, Hida City. As the activity includes the Shirakawa‑go observation deck and visitor numbers vary daily, the tour guide will reduce the time at Hida‑Takayama attractions by half an hour and increase the time at Shirakawa‑go attractions by half an hour, according to real‑time conditions.

If the journey takes longer than estimated due to force majeure factors such as weather or traffic, the tour guide will reduce the time accordingly based on actual conditions.

Attraction / Experience: 14:30, 1 hour 30 minutes, free time, Shirakawa‑go. *Exclusive access to the observation deck (please note there may be unscheduled maintenance from time to time; we appreciate your kind understanding)

Return journey: 18:00 ‑ 20:00, arrival back. Due to the relatively long journey, the actual arrival time may be affected by factors such as traffic and weather. The above times are estimates only.
