Xixi National Wetland Park is located in the west of Hangzhou, only 6 kilometres from Wulinmen in the main urban area of Hangzhou and just 5 kilometres from the West Lake. Xixi originated in the Han and Jin dynasties, developed in the Tang and Song dynasties, flourished in the Ming and Qing dynasties, declined in the Republic of China era, and revived in modern times. In Hangzhou's history, the 'Three Wests'—West Lake, Xixi, and Xiling—were often mentioned together. Historically, Xixi covered about 60 square kilometres, but the total area of Xixi Wetland currently under protection is approximately 10.38 square kilometres.

It features ten scenic spots, including 'Autumn Reed Flying Snow, Gaozhuang Imperial Trail, Fisherman's Village in Misty Rain, Listening to Melodies at Hezhu, Dragon Boat Races, Winding Waters Seeking Plum Blossoms, Persimmons Reflecting on Ripples, Egret Shadows over Lotus Beach, Lingering Charm of Hongyuan, and Reeds under Moonlight', as well as three embankments: 'Fu Embankment, Lyu Embankment, and Shou Embankment'. Xixi is a rare wetland in China that uniquely combines urban wetland, agricultural wetland, and cultural wetland, and it is also one of the earliest national wetland parks in the country. Xixi Wetland embodies five major cultural themes: 'Buddhist Tranquillity, Seclusion, Folk Customs, Leisure, and Wilderness', with distinct zoning characteristics: 'South for Seclusion, North for Folk Customs, East for Bustle, and West for Serenity'. The essence of Xixi culture lies in 'One Garden, Five Landmarks': Hongyuan Garden, the Premiere Venue of Yue Opera, the Holy Land of Poets, the Cradle of Water Margin, the Retreat of Scholars, and a Microcosm of Folk Traditions. Xixi boasts a 300‑mu plum blossom forest, featuring varieties such as Jiangmei, Gongfen, Zhusha, Lyue, Yudie, and Meirenmei.

The best places for plum blossom viewing in Xixi are the Meizhu Leisure Area, with Meizhu Villa and Xixi Meishu being the main concentrations, and along the Mei Embankment from Zhoujia Village to Gaozhuang, where many plum trees are also planted. From November/December to March of the following year, different varieties of plum blossoms bloom in succession. 'Winding Waters Seeking Plum Blossoms, Rowing a Boat to Explore Plum Blossoms' is a unique way of enjoying plum blossoms in Xixi.
