Zhongshan
Zhongshan City, commonly known as Zhongshan (official romanisation: Zhongshan; traditional foreign name: Chungshan), formerly known as Heungshan or Heungsan (traditional foreign names: Heungshan, Heungsan), is a prefecture-level city under Guangdong Province. It is the only prefecture-level city in China named after a modern leader, located in the central-southern part of Guangdong Province, and is one of the cities covered by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Zhongshan was formerly called 'Heungshan' because the Wugui Mountain area in its territory is rich in exotic flowers and herbs (and also produces the 'Fairy Tea of Exotic Flowers'). The Northern Song Dynasty 'Taiping Huanyu Ji' records: 'The land has many immortal flowers and plants, hence it is called Heungshan.' Zhongshan is a renowned national historical and cultural city. The Heungshan culture that originated in Zhongshan is an important source of modern Chinese culture; Zhongshan is also one of the representative cities of Cantonese culture, one of the birthplaces of Cantonese cuisine, and enjoys the reputation of being the hometown of opera (Cantonese opera) and the hometown of overseas Chinese in Guangdong Province. There are over 800,000 overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan compatriots living in 87 countries and regions across five continents. The current Ten Scenic Spots of Zhongshan are: Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen, New Charm of Old Street, Xingzhong Embellishment, Renshan Jade Pavilion, Wugui Majestic Peak, Hot Spring Green Garden, Fufeng Literary Peak, Yangtze River Overlapping Green, Ziling Singing, and Jucheng Golden Petals. 'Ten Scenic Spots of Zhongshan' encapsulates the essence of Zhongshan's tourist attractions. Among these, 'New Charm of Old Street' refers to Sunwen West Road in Shiqi Subdistrict, an old street that began to be established from the Sui and Tang dynasties and has a history of over 800 years. Zhongshan also has some popular tourist attractions, such as Qijiang Park, Zhongshan City, Lingnan Water Town, Zhan Garden, Hengmen Maritime Manor, Guangfeng Village Tourist Area, Quanlin Mountain Villa, Zhuoqi Mountain Villa, Yangtze River Water World, Xiaoyao Valley, etc.
