Rijksmuseum Hosts Major Willem de Kooning Retrospective in Amsterdam
The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is staging the largest presentation of Willem de Kooning's work ever held in the Netherlands. Titled Willem de Kooning at Work, the exhibition opens on Friday, October 9, 2026, and runs until Sunday, January 17, 2027.

Visitors can view the retrospective daily between 09:00 and 17:00 at the Rijksmuseum, located at Museumstraat 1, 1071 XX Amsterdam. The exhibition focuses on the artistic process of the Rotterdam-born painter who moved to the United States and became a key figure in Abstract Expressionism. It features paintings, drawings, and sculptures that demonstrate how the artist developed his works by building, scraping back, and rebuilding surfaces.

Admission to the exhibition is included with regular museum tickets. Adult tickets cost EUR 25, while visitors under eighteen enter for free.
