The exhibition explores the connection between the wealth of the Herengracht canal houses and colonial trade. It highlights former residents Willem Gideon Deutz (1697-1757) and Fredrik Berewout (1692-1777). Deutz held financial stakes in over a hundred plantations, while Berewout owned several, including the Jagtlust plantation in Suriname.

Visitors can learn about individuals who profited from the plantation system and the lives of the enslaved people who worked there. An audio tour featuring programmer and intellectual Dolores Leeuwin, a descendant of an enslaved woman from Jagtlust, guides visitors through the house and its history.
